Tonya Rhodes has over 20 years of combined experience with county government departments of social services and private mental health agencies. Those positions gave Tonya the opportunity to work with a variety of populations with chronic mental health and substance use diagnoses and those who have endured traumatic events. Tonya attended Barton College in Wilson, NC where she received a Bachelor of Psychology degree. She later obtained a Master of Social Work degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC as well as a Substance Abuse Certificate. In 2016, Tonya completed the requirements with the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). This licensure qualifies its holder to provide clinical treatment and diagnosis for individuals.
Tonya has received specialized training and has done a considerable amount of research on the self-care of helping professionals. Helping professionals are often susceptible to enduring burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. Defining the difference between these plights and guiding these professionals to wellness has been a vital mission for Tonya. Additionally, the condition and treatment of anxiety and depression have been a primary therapeutic and personal cause for her. Tonya is passionate about the social work profession and applies her experience in working with people, as well as professional training, to ensure that the well-being of each person is maintained.
